I am in my early 40’s, average, somewhat educated.. About 4 years ago I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. The diagnosis came as a bit of a surprise as I had gone to the doctor for kidney stones. The abdominal pain went away pretty quickly. I didn’t have kidney stones. But the tests that the doctor ordered showed an elevated A1C. A follow up A1C test confirmed that I was diabetic.
In hindsight, I felt the symptoms of the disease before I was ever diagnosed. Weight gain, lethargy, a feeling of “pins and needles” in the fingers and feet, and high blood pressure were “issues” I was dealing with for at least 10 years before the diagnosis.
As of right now, I am on 3 medications to control blood pressure, and 2 medications to control blood sugar. I also use a CPAP machine to help me breathe while I sleep. Recently. I’ve wondered if I’ll have to rely on these medications forever, or if I can find some way to reduce or eliminate them. In my search for an answer to my query, I found a lot of conflicting and sometimes confusing information.
So, I am writing this blog to:
- make sense of the volumes information,
- document my journey, and share my experiences including sharing my small wins (and losses) with others out there who might also be wondering how to manage type 2 diabetes,
- meet, and learn from other folks that found themselves in, and are successfully dealing with type 2 diabetes.
In this blog, the content will be mostly geared towards type 2 diabetes. Between family and work obligations, not a lot of time is left to research other forms of the condition. Please don’t take anything I post here as medical advice as I am not a doctor. The site is for informational purposes only. Before exploring any course of treatment or lifestyle change please consult your doctor.
Thank you,
MAD
